Dr. Zhixin "Richard" Kang is an associate professor of Quantitative Methods at the Department of Economics and Decision Sciences in the School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He teaches Business Statistics I & II, Spreadsheet and Database Management, Quantitative Methods, and Data Analytics for Business classes.
His research is in applied statistics, financial economics, financial econometrics, time-series modeling and forecasting, and real estate finance and economics. His research has been published in "Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods," "Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics," "Statistics and Its Interface," "Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management," "Journal of Transnational Management," "Applied Financial Economics," "Journal of Finance and Accountancy," "International Journal of Supply Chain and Inventory Management," and "International Journal of Electronic Finance, Scholarship and Practice of Undergraduate Research."
He has presented his papers in many regional and national conferences and has served as a reviewer, session chair and discussant in these conferences. In addition, he regularly reviews papers for peer-reviewed academic journals in his fields.

Quantitative Methods, Data Analytics for Business
What do students learn in your classes? What is the expected outcome?
In my Quantitative Methods class, MBA students learn the skills of using quantitative modeling and forecasting tools to analyze business data and make business decisions. Furthermore, these quantitative tools can be used in many data-driven business fields such as accounting, finance, human resources, marketing consulting, retailing, supply chain, e-commerce and so on. After completing this course, students are expected to be able to analyze real business data using EXCEL and write formal technical reports based on results obtained from a quantitative analysis.
In my Data Analytics for Business class, MBA students learn the most widely used programming language in data science/analytics. Specifically, students use machine learning tools to deal with big data, make forecasts and evaluate different business scenarios using data analytics tools. This course will use the most popular data in the data analytics field to illustrate the data analysis techniques. After completing this course, students will be able to conduct data-driven business analysis and decision-making.
